My favorite holiday is the Winter Solstice. I love it because it’s so ancient. We’ve been celebrating this event all over the world for thousands and thousands of years. What is it that we’re celebrating? It’s the magic of darkness. What? The magic of darkness. The Winter Solstice reminds us that every period of darkness in our lives is replaced by the light.
During the year we feel neglected, forgotten and misunderstood. We let petty resentments steal our precious time from us. But during the darkest time of the year, we’re willing to try a little more than we did throughout the year. I think this is a good thing. Better that we try once a year than not at all.
Remember, it only takes one candle to light all other candles. During this Holiday season I hope you keep your one candle burning brightly so that others might see the light and share friendship with you.
I know the season has turned commercial and crazy, but it still tends to bring out the light in us. End this year with a ritual of gratitude and affirmations for the coming year. Light a candle for those who live in hunger and invisibility from human kindness. Light a candle because even though you may be feeling annoyed, you’re loved. That’s worth celebrating.
We held our annual Solstice celebration this past weekend and we focused on spiritual rituals. A ritual is a process by which all of your senses, as well as your concentration, are focused together on a loving intention. This gives your intention a boost and it helps you to commit to your intention. Quite often we set intentions and we don’t commit to their growth. That’s like planting seeds and never tending to them. They may come up or they may disappear due to neglect.
Kindly join us over the next year for the word of the month. It may help you to commit to the practice of love. Peace be with you and Namaste.
